Christmas and Holiday Day Luncheon-Friday, December 22, 2017 from 10:00a.m. to 1:00p.m.

Join our Senior Nutrition Program for our annual Christmas and Holiday Celebration. We will have a wonderful performance by our Dazzling Diva Tap Dancers at 11:30a.m. as well as a local musical group Nightwind. Please don’t forget to reserve the meal early. Our special meal for the day will be Rib Roast, Fresh Baked Potato, Creamed Spinach, Fresh Orange and Christmas Cookie

New Year’s Celebration and Luncheon-Friday, December 29, 2017 10:00a.m. to 1:00p.m.

We will be ringing in the new year with a celebration here at Southside Community Center. The Peninsula Banjo Band will be performing from 10:00a.m. to 12:00p.m and we will have a special meal prepared, as well. Please do not forget to reserve your meal of Stuffed Chicken Breast, Whole Wheat Roll, Roasted Broccoli Spears, Fresh Orange and Carrot Cake

Southside Community Center will be on a different schedule during winter break. From Monday, December 18th through Friday, December 29th there will be no programming other than Senior Nutrition Program. The Senior Nutrition Program will continue to run from 10:00a.m. to 1:00p.m. Please refer to the Home page about the holiday closures and observances in December and early January. We will have Jaye Phillips, from the City of San Jose coming by to speak to the participants and see what you would be interested in having at Southside Community Center.

If you are interested in having some special visitors or presenters here to come and talk during the Senior Nutrition Program, please contact Recreation Specialist, Dustin Gordon, in the front office.

Movie Day

There will not be any movie days for a while

Birthday Celebration

Third Wednesday of the month in the Multipurpose Room. Come and enjoy lunch while we celebrate your birthday with friends. Sign-up in the MPR during nutrition.

We will be starting new activities during 10:00am to 12:00pm in the MPR

  • Backgammon and Chess will happen on Mondays
  • Bingo will continue to be on Tuesdays
  • Card Club will happen on Wednesdays
  • Dominoes and Sudoku will happen on Thursdays
  • Movies will be shown on Fridays in the morning instead of the afternoons

Please note that if there are special events or speakers, the schedule is subject to change.

Information & assistance tailored specifically to older adults and their family members.
Volunteers can help you navigate to find valuable resources such as: transportation, housing, food and much more.

Currently there is a Health and Wellness Grant Survey that we would love for you to fill out. The last day to complete the survey is Friday, December 22, 2017. This survey helps us gather more information about how we can serve the older community better. Please contact Recreation Specialist, Dustin Gordon, if you would like to take the survey. It should take no longer than a 5 minutes and the Computer Lab can be made available to complete the survey.

We would value your input and would love to hear what classes, programs and services you are interested in having here at Southside Community Center. We look forward to speaking with you soon about this. The next field trip for the San Jose City Wide Field Trips will go to San Francisco for shopping, dining and a cable car tour is coming up soon. The day of the fi eld trip is Thursday, December 14, 2017. The trip includes transportation, dinner at Fog Harbor Restaurant and lots of holiday shopping. Please remember to dress warm as the city can get quite chilly. To attend, please pre-register in person at your local community center or online at
